Benefits of Cork Flooring

Most often than not you have seen cork in some shape or form throughout your day to day life style. Whether its preserving your wine bottle or holding photos and notes up on a memo board at home or in the office, cork is a product that not only benefits your home but also the planet. If you're looking for an alternative option for flooring in your home, why not try installing cork? Let's look at some of the benefits of a cork floor:

  • Self Healing - One of the great attributes of cork is the self healing aspect.  If something is dropped on a cork floor, not only will it absorb the shock it will also bounce back to its original shape. This is mainly due to cork consisting of more than 50% of it's cells consist of air making it light weight as well.
  • Overall Healthy Option -  Great for people who have allergies, cork is a natural material that is naturally resistant to mold, mildew, and termites.  Cork is VOC free, preventing any compounds that would typically cause any irritation from your eyes, throat, and nose from releasing into the air. One last thing that make's cork the overall healthy option is it is anti-microbial.
  • Sound Absorbent -Cork is a great natural sound dampener.  Aside from used as flooring, cork can also be installed on walls for places such as music studios or auditorium. You can install it on your second floor or bedroom to help limit the spread of noise throughout the house.
  • Soft & Cushioning - Cork is much softer than your typical standard floors like tile, hardwood, and bamboo. It also has better indoor air-quality compared to carpet.  Cork gives a comfortable cushion underfoot and comes in with a built-in underlayment making it easy to install on a sub-floor or concrete slab (a moisture barrier is still recommend on a slab).
